University Assistant Prae-Doc (all genders)

30 hours/week | limited to 4 years

At the Institute of Engineering Design and Product Development, in the Research Group for Aircraft Systems TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant prae-doc (all genders) limited to expected 4 years for 30 hours/week. Expected start: August 2026.

Tasks:

  • Assisting with the delivery of courses, as well as with the development and implementation of laboratory exercises and the preparation of oral and written exams
  • Supervising students in the context of seminars, projects, and theses
  • Research and project work in the field of novel propulsion systems in aviation utilizing hydrogen as an energy carrier
  • Assisting with organizational and administrative tasks
  • Contributing to the definition and acquisition of new research projects in the field of aviation
  • Forming consortia and drafting research project proposals
  • Contributing to the design, construction, and further development of heat exchanger test benches, including system control and measurement technology
  • Deepening scientific knowledge
  • Writing a dissertation and publications
  • Participating in scientific events and national and international networking meetings

Your profile:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field
  • Knowledge of heat transfer and flow analysis for heat exchangers is required
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD, CFD, MATLAB, Python, and simulation tools for aerospace propulsion systems (e.g., GT-Lab) is a plus
  • Ability to work independently on the experimental validation of simulation results on a heat exchanger test bench
  • Knowledge of measurement technology for validating flow simulations
  • Excellent English skills and at least basic written and spoken German
  • Interest in research on novel aerospace propulsion systems and the corresponding methods and tools for calculating them
  • Ability to work in a team, problem-solving skills, and innovative thinking

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year for 30 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
